The Schools Project launch
Glenn started off the day and illustrated in story form one of the central themes – namely how even a small action like dropping a plastic bag can have significant consequences elsewhere in the world.
The workshops then began – the children had great fun learning about Inuit sculpture in the Art workshop run by staff and students of Tunbridge Wells Girls’ Grammar School.

The children were justly proud of their giant models of a Walrus and a Polar Bear they created using mod-rock.

The children also took part in scientific experiments, a geography quiz, drama workshops, and – with the help from experts in the local media - edited their own newspaper – the Inuit Post...

...and made a radio programme and broadcast news reports about climate change from their very own Ice Cold BBC TV.

Sixth form students played an active role in organising the day and ran several of the workshops. Here they are joining in a workshop on the traditional musical art of Inuit throat singing.

For a break from the work inside, Glenn gave the children a display of kayaking techniques on the Castle lake, including a few rolls…

At the end of the day adults and children alike left with a deeper understanding of the Arctic, the Inuit people and how our actions can be felt in places far from our own country.
